Import of cocopeat from India

Import of cocopeat

Coco Peat is made from coconut, fiber, Brown coconuts have fibers on the skin of the fruit.

In countries that produce coconuts, such as India or Sri Lanka, these fibers are shredded with special machines and then compressed.

Cocopeat soil is suitable as a hydroponic culture medium for planting tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and growing flowers and houseplants. Also, it is the best growing medium for growing seeds, Propagation by slips, bulbs, and seedlings.

Cocopeat is sold in compressed molds in agricultural equipment sales centers and flower shops. After being immersed in water and absorbing moisture, the compacted cocopeat can be transformed into a moist cocopeat, which, depending on the size of the pot and the type of plant, can be used alone or mixed with other planting media.

In today’s world Cocopeat is widely used in hydroponic cultivation. It was first used for gardening in the 19th century. But because it is short-lived, it was no longer used until it was used as soil for houseplants in the twentieth century.

Cocopeat is classified as an organic planting medium and is considered one of the best planting media for plants. The advantages of using this planting medium are:

  1. Water conservation: The potential of cocopeat for water retention is very high compared to other types of planting medium, and therefore it helps in both water conservation and plant optimal growth. cocopeat acts like a sponge and holds water in the soil up to 20 times its weight, thus increasing soil moisture, resulting in significant savings in water consumption in agriculture.
  1. Proper ventilation: Cocopeat soil, which is obtained from a mixture of ordinary soil with coco peat, has a very good ventilation power. Coconut fibers have very good air porosity even when saturated with water, and as a result, the combination of this material with the soil prevents soil compaction and in the meantime prevents it from hardening.
  1. Free from soil diseases and pests: One of the most important benefits of cocopeat is that it is free from all kinds of weed seeds, pests, and diseases. Coconut fibers are free of many soil-borne contaminants because they grow above the tree and above ground level.
  1. High durability: cocopeat has longer durability than other types of planting medium and can be used as a planting medium for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 years.
  1. Suitable pH for plant growth: The pH range of cocopeat soil is neutral to slightly acidic from 5.5 to 6.5, which is a suitable range for most plants. In this range of pH, nutrients will be easily available to the plant roots.
  1. Reduction of germination time and rapid root growth: The inherent quality of coconut fibers and proper ventilation of this substrate has made the excessive use of cocopeat soil which made it to speed up seed germination and propagation of slips which led to cocopeat being one of the best planting mediums out there.
  1. 7. Helping to preserve the environment: Cocopeat is a completely organic substance. And has no adverse effects on the environment and it will returns to nature after decomposition.

Import of cocopeat

Cocopeat has limited disadvantages, which include:

  1. Lack of nutrients: One of the most important disadvantages of cocopeat is the lack of nutrients in it. Therefore, if you use this substrate, it is necessary to use nutrient solutions and liquid fertilizers to feed the plants. Also, the ability to re-wet and the rapid drainage properties of cocopeat reduce and loss of nutrients through leaching.
  2. High price: Cocopeat is an expensive material that is mostly imported into our country. And because of that, it will bring a lot of initial cost to greenhouse owners

Origin of cocopeat

Currently, there are two countries that produce coconut in the world. India is a major producer of cocopeats due to having many coconut trees. The cocopeats of this country are of higher quality than Indian cocopeats and have features such as lower salinity, volume filling and opening speed.
